ABOUT US
At the onset of the Covid pandemic, which was followed by lockdowns and rampant fear and uncertainties, the internet, especially YouTube, became our way of acquiring human interaction and entertainment. For expats, it triggered a desire to go home. Since this was not physically possible, Youtube allowed folks to journey through Jamaica. We came across Claudia Davis’ Channel, where she talks about real estate on the island and financial management. It evolved into her leading a financial awareness book club, through Zoom. As we learned, we became aware of ways to grow and preserve our wealth. This experience deepened the desire to return home. As we talked, and shared our experiences, we realized we have very similar aspirations. We all wanted to:
1. Build wealth and enrich our future generations
2. To create a space that provides healthy food and ample green space
3. A safe space for all to enjoy and build a community
4. Solidarity and building our nation
5. A community that contains social efficacy
6. A home for future generations to enjoy
7. A space for the community to utilize and educate
Toniann Dietrich, the daughter of Ms. Davis, introduced the concept of a community anchored by a farm space and communal amenities- a farmstead. As Ms. Davis and Toni searched for the ideal land, we realized the complexities with balancing desires and cost. As we searched, we discovered and learned about the parishes on the North Coast, the journey led us to Portland. The opportunity to buy Norwich House presented itself. As the group explored the location and it offerings, we agreed on naming the company Ecostead, a place where families live and grow.
